Recyclosaur

To celebrate the Raptors’ 30th anniversary and promote sustainability, the Raptors and GFL Environmental collaborated to develop a large-scale sculpture made entirely from recycled materials sourced from Scotiabank Arena. Created by Toronto-born artist Junko, "Recyclosaur”, was brought to life and displayed at key locations, including Scotiabank Arena, the Royal Ontario Museum, and MLSE LaunchPad - highlighting GFL's commitment to environmental stewardship and engaging the community in recycling efforts. The campaign kicked off with a launch event and unfolded through a tease-and-reveal content strategy to unveil the sculpture.
THE PROBLEM
Despite GFL's efforts in collecting over 3 million lbs of recyclable materials from Scotiabank Arena each year, fan awareness of their impact remains low — highlighting the need to raise visibility and celebrate their sustainability efforts.
THE ASK
Create a highly visible and memorable stunt that engages Raptors fans and the Toronto community, spotlighting GFL’s recycling efforts and inspiring greater participation in sustainability initiatives.
CREATIVE INSIGHT
Individual recycling efforts are easy to ignore — but bold, memorable experiences can turn awareness into action.
THE IDEA
Recyclosaur: Transform recycleable materials into a captivating, dinosaur- themed sculpture, demonstrating how waste can be repurposed into something meaningful and inspiring the community to take part in sustainable practices.
